Did You Vote?
| I just voted an hour ago. I feel good as an American. It's an important election, no doubt about that, and for those of you who feel that your vote doesn't matter, I pity you. Not because I completely disagree, but because I feel we should vote because we have the right to. I believe the right to vote is a liberty that should be just as cherished as the right to bear arms, the right to religion, and the right to free speech. What if we continue to look at voting with indifference as we do many other things? If we continue to say, "I'll let someone else's vote count for me," and don't seize or take advantage of the right that's been given to us? It seems like we might be on a fast-track to communism and handing over our free rights by moving into a government system where leaders who want to be in power take it by force. Sure, maybe I am just one person, but I am part of a multitude of "one persons" with the right to choose our next leader. Maybe the guy I voted for won't be elected to office, and that's fine. I realize that regardless of who is elected as our next leader, God is in control. Despite what happens tonight, when we find out who the next leader of the free world will be, God is bigger than this election, bigger than the American dream, and bigger than our own selfish wants. On a lighter note, I found out that Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, and Ben & Jerry's are giving away freebies to everyone who votes today! Starbucks require that you show your "I Voted" sticker like mine pictured above and you'll receive a free Tall coffee of your choice! Krispy Kreme allows you to just mention their promo and you receive a free star donut with red and blue sprinkles on it! Also, if you're interested in seeing how others are voting, particularly readers of RELEVANT Magazine, you can go to there site HERE, scroll to the bottom left-hand side of the page and enter your vote on the poll to see what the current percentages are. Anyway, at the risk of sounding preach or even ranting, I hope you'll exercise your right as a free American to go and cast your vote today. I honestly don't care who for, vote on your convictions, but please, while we still have the right, USE IT! |

post a commentSadly, no free ben and jerry's for me today- since I can't vote as a Canadian citizen! If I ever wanted SO badly to vote, it's THIS election, though!
And you are absolutely right- everyone needs to vote. I've always said that if you don't VOTE, then you have NO right to complain. Voting is your voice!
(oh, wait...except for me- I still have the right to complain...)
